When I first came to America I thought my English skills were pretty good and I was confident that I could understand pretty much everything... but I forgot, that American English can be very different from the British English you learn in school in Germany... so here are some common slang terms you definitely will come across sooner or later...
"Pop" is another word for soda such as Coca Cola, Sprite, Fanta etc.
"Let's do a raincheck on this one" means to postpone something to a later time
"1 buck" is another word for 1 Dollar
"Awesome" is used a lot instead of great for example
"Dude" is often used to address someone, e.g. "Dude - did you see that movie last night?"
"Chillin" is another word for hanging out
"What's up" is commonly used to asked someone what is going on as part of smalltalk
"That's a no brainer" means that it's common sense and you should know it
"See you later" cannot always be taken literally, it can also be another word for good bye
"Hilarious" means very funny
"Shoot hoops" means playing basketball
"Bent out of shape" is another expression for being upset
"Booze" is another word for alcohol
"Being bummed" means being disappointed
"Call it a day" is often used to stop some sort of activity you have been doing
"On the flipside" means on the opposite
"Red eye" is another word for overnight flight
"Later" is the short form of see you later
"Get a kick out of something" means to find something amusing
And of course there are many more... but will talk about it another time.
Tip: A great way of figuring out what people are talking about is to use the "urban dictionnary" it helped me out a couple of times!

"Let's do a raincheck on this one" - bedeutet etwas wi z.B. einen Termin, Treffen zu verschieben
"Chillin" - steht fuer abhaengen, relaxen
"What's up" - wird oft im Smalltalk verwendet und kann am besten mit was geht? uebersetzt werden
"That's a no brainer" - steht fuer glasklar, das musst du wissen
"See you later" - darf nicht immer woertlich genommen werden, wird oft benutzt um sich zu verabschieden
"Hilarious" - steht fuer sehr lustig
"Shoot hoops" - steht fuer Basketball spielen
"Bent out of shape" - ein anderes Wort fuer aufgeregt / sauer sein
"Booze" - ist ein anderes Wort fuer Alkohol
"Being bummed" - bedeutet enttaeuscht zu sein
"Call it a day" - wird oft benutzt um eine Aktivitaet zu beenden
"On the flipside" - steht fuer auf der anderen Seite
"Later" - Kurzform fuer See you Later
"Get a kick out of something" - Etwas lustig finden
